In order to fully live
it is necessary first to die.
In order to breathe, to really breathe,
to fill our entire lungs with life giving air,
first we must exhale,
let go,
give in,
give up all that we are holding,
here, close to our chests.
All that we thought was keeping us alive,
giving us life,
keeping us safely in existence:
we must let it all go.
In order to move
first we must be still.
In order to speak,
first we must be silent.
In order to eat,
first we must know hunger.
It is the empty that makes us full.
It is the loss that gives us plenty.
It is the surrender that gives us what we need.
